Youth Development

EXCEL Program 

The Edmonton Volleyball & Pickleball Center is proud to launch Youth Development Excel Program for it's second semester. This a specialized training stream designed for motivated young athletes born in 2011 or 2012 who are ready to push their game further.

Whether your athlete has outgrown recreational programming or simply craves more challenge and structure, Youth Development Excel provides the ideal next step. Athletes will train alongside like-minded peers, receive consistent coaching, and experience game play that emphasizes performance, growth, and strategic thinking.

This program is for athletes who:

Were born in 2011 or 2012 that:

  • Have at minimum 1 year of school experience (and have played a set position before)

  • OR

  • Have played at least 1 year of club volleyball

  • Have participated in at least 2 semester in our Youth Development program in the past

  • Are eager to improve technically and tactically

  • Thrive in a structured and competitive setting

  • Are looking for more advanced training and instruction

  • Aspire to make a club team in the future

 

Program Features:

  • Skill-specific instruction led by experienced coaches

  • High-rep, high-focus practice sessions

  • Competitive team play and scrimmage opportunities

  • Emphasis on athlete development, discipline, and game IQ

  • Courts will be separated by skill level according to coach professional judgement

This program provides a dedicated training stream for athletes serious about their development and excited to work hard alongside others with similar goals.

Coaching & Instruction:

  • Athletes are assigned to consistent teams and coaches throughout the session, fostering growth, mentorship, and team chemistry.

  • Coaches are experienced, supportive, and focused on individual development in a fun, structured environment.

 

Program Format:

  • Initial Evaluation & Team Formation: The first two sessions focus on skills and assessment to create balanced teams.

  • Week Training Sessions: Focused skill development practice.

  • Sunday Session: Matches, scrimmages, and game like drills that reinforce learned skills.

  • Season-End Tournament: Depending on registration numbers, athletes wrap up the program with a fun, competitive experience.

PROGRAM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

To be eligible to register for this program, athletes must fit the following criteria:

  • Athlete must have participated in at least 2 past semesters of our Youth Development Program (or a similar program)

  • Athlete must have at minimum 1 year of experience on a school team (with specific positional playing experience) or a club team

  • Athlete aspires to play at the club level​

NOTE--> If an athlete does not fit the overall program skill level according to professional coach opinion after the first 2 sessions, they may be asked to move to our General Stream program (IF SPACES ALLOWS).

Born 2008-2014 General Youth Development Program Overview

At the Edmonton Volleyball Center, our goal is to grow a love for volleyball in each person that walks through our doors. With this goal as the center of everything, we are proud to run for the fourth year in a row our Youth Development Program occurring through three sessions throughout the year. ​

​

Program Purpose:

The goal of our Youth Development Program is to provide an opportunity for athletes to develop fundamental skills, foster sportsmanship, and experience the excitement of team play in a positive, recreational environment. This program is designed to help young athletes build a strong foundation in volleyball while having fun and learning in a supportive setting.

​

Who This Program Is For:

This program is appropriate for boys and girls who are aiming to advance their foundational skills through structured training. This program supports both beginners and those with prior exposure who wish to further develop their abilities.

Program Goals:

  • Develop technical volleyball skills (passing, setting, serving, hitting, etc.)

  • Improve game play understanding and team dynamics

  • Teach and model good sportsmanship and positive attitude

  • Build confidence and love for the game

 

Coaching & Instruction:

  • Athletes are assigned to consistent teams and coaches throughout the session, fostering growth, mentorship, and team chemistry.

  • Coaches are experienced, supportive, and focused on individual development in a fun, structured environment.

 

Program Format:

  • This is a twice a week training program for all age categories except the born 2015-2017 (which is once a week only).

  • Initial Evaluation & Team Formation: The first two sessions focus on skills and assessment to create balanced teams.

  • Week Training Sessions: Focused skill development practice.

  • Second Session (usually Sundays or Fridays for Born 2013/2014 Section B program): Matches, scrimmages, and game like drills that reinforce learned skills.

  • Season-End Tournament: Depending on registration numbers, athletes wrap up the program with a fun, competitive experience.

Born 2015-2017 Program Overview​

​

Those entering Age Category "Born 2015-2017" will practice once per week and will have a mini style tournament on their final scheduled day. This age category will focus on fundamental movement patterns, volleyball skills, game play learnings and fostering a love of sport in each participant in a team environment.

In this age category, teams will be separated into leveled groups for all skill work days. On scheduled play days, all courts will mix to create even team play opportunities.
